Confessions, thoughts and adventures of a local girl (and her husband) living in Japan
Where We Live
Yokosuka: In August 2011, we moved to Yokosuka, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan. It's located approximately 50 miles south of Tokyo and it takes about 60-70 minutes to get there from Tokyo by train (express train of course, not the local).

Naval Base: Yokosuka is home to U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka which is located at the entrance to Tokyo Bay, and is the largest overseas U.S. Naval Installation (it's the gray area located right above the A balloon on the map below).

This is a picture I took of part of the base from one of my favorite hangout spots (Starbucks, duh). Some of my military friends say that the base is not that big compared to others in the U.S., but I don't have much experience with military bases, so to me it's pretty big.
Our House: We live off base, approximately a 10-15 minute drive (20-30 in traffic). Our house is an older home, but it's a lot bigger than the 1 bedroom apartment that we lived in in downtown Honolulu (although I loved that apartment dearly and miss it), and we really like the area. The train station and Japanese grocery store are about a 5 minute walk, which is a huge convenience for me, since I use the train to get around during the day.
